| HOMAGE Armance is your book. "You inscribed it for me, of course it is, now," you'd say, but that's not the true reason. Armance was always your book, from its earliest conception, long before I wrote in silence inside it and penned down our summer in three incomplete sentences. "Not incomplete, Elio," you'd argue, "becoming." I've read Heraclitus, too, I'd know what you mean. As it is... I might be just a kid, but I'm a professor's kid and Papa was the only TV I had, growing up. "Becoming," you'd add, right? I know a few things without any actual importance and nothing that matters, except your name in my mouth. That's why Armance is your book. Because it's based on themes taken from Duchess Claire de Duras' novel, Olivier. I don't have to tell you, since you were the one to correct my father on his philological dissection of the word apricot, but Olivier is the French version of your name. Oliver. Oliver, Oliver. You simply have to inspire people, don't you? |
